A little about us

So I have a crazy busy hectic.....life. I'm always in the middle of some project or other, running hither and yon taking kids to this and that. This is a way to share those crazy projects and keep those who are interested up to date on our crazy lives.

I am the Mom to a family of 5 +uncountable pets. My husband works essentially two jobs from the months of March-October as he is an umpire for two leagues outside of his "day job." I work part time, and the rest of my time is spent juggling multiple calendars, sports, schools, activities, and pet needs.

Welcome to my world....

I'm an Iron Dog!

We went to the CanAm classic tournament in Indianapolis last weekend. It was fun, lots of racing, seeing people we know, all the good stuff. We really went because I needed 121 more points to hit my Flyball Dog Grand Champion title, which is 30,000 points! Not bad for an eleven year old dog but it's taken a while to achieve. My team told my Mom she should race me for the important heats. I don't want Mom to race me anymore so I went around the jumps twice! So Mom handed me off to my kid and I played fine for him. I played right for Dad, and Stephanie. But not Mom. Saturday night we had awards and learned that there is a new award out there called "Iron Dog." It is for NAFA dogs who have scored at least one point every year for ten consecutive years. I was the only dog in our club to get that award (but I'm also one of the oldest dogs in the club.) Mom & Dad let Marvin come out of retirement for one race so he can get that award too. Really? Can't I get one thing that he doesn't?? But I am an Iron Dog! Yay for me!

Here's my name on the list!

Flyball is FUN!!

Flyball is so much fun, even if Mom & Dad had camper problems and it was rainy. This is what cold, rainy flyball looks like!

And this is nice, sunny weather flyball!

But flyball in any weather is great. We've raced in hot, hot, sunny summers and in freezing cold, sub-zero winters. We almost always race indoors so the lanes are always nice, but sometimes we crate and camp outside and the weather plays games with us.

I did really good this weekend. My boy, Sam, was my handler and I was really good for him and didn't try to slip away from him or anything. Of course, he is getting smart and figuring out my tricks now and he's bigger than me....

And I thought I'd share this picture of Silk my BC brother. This is what the trip home looks like. We are tired after all of that racing!

Packing

We heard that word today.....FLYBALL! And Mom and Dad are packing....That means trip! Whoo Hoo!!! Starting the packing we make sure that Mom and Dad don't forget the important stuff. Our food, our toys, tugs, other stuff. They pulled out the kit that has the wraps that Marv hates, pulled the camper out of the garage, and are gathering all of the goodies. Can't wait to go!!!!!! I hope we leave soon!

A flyball weekend alone!

I got to go to flyball! YAY me! I got to go to a flyball tournament with Stephanie. I LOVE Stephanie, I love Stephanie so much that sometimes I even pee on her cause I'm so excited.

And that means my nasty BC brothers had to stay home. HAHA! My weekend was so much fun, first I got to go to work with Mom on Friday morning.

I like Mom's work in the summer, it's very quiet there and it's just she and I. I get to relax and have nobody bother me. Then I got to go spend time with my Uncle Chris at his office. I had so much fun meeting all of his co-workers, and I'm sure they all loved me! Finally Stephanie picked me up and we were off to Amana, Iowa.

It's not a bad trip really, I have to ride in my crate but I like it that way anyway. I'm nice and safe in my crate and I don't get an upset tummy when I ride in it. We hung out Friday night.

On Saturday I got to RACE! Stephanie ran me some, I had to share a spot with Hemi but I got to run starts some! YAY! I LOVE to start, and I can run just as fast as those bigger dogs. But I don't really like my tug anymore. You see, I have this tug, it's OLD, really old. And it has a pouch inside it where Mom hides my squeaky rat toy. I want my toy and they only let me have it at the end of the race! Mean Mommy! So once I get it, I head back to my crate. And I had to try on this silly orange collar of Neville's. Neville is a puppy and a Chihuahua! I'm not that little! But Mom couldn't find my red racing color so I guess I had to wear something....

Sunday I got to run ALL DAY! It's so much fun to race. John ran me Sunday and he's tall! He held me and only set me down to run, I'm not sure what I think about that, Mom & Dad let me have my feet on the ground to get revved up. I like John a lot, but I wouldn't play tug with him. Mom is worried that my teeth are hurting and said she'll have to ask the vet next month what he thinks. Or I could just be playing games with her!!! After racing Sunday I was really tired so I slept the whole way home. Dad came and met Stephanie to bring me home Monday night. As soon as I got home I had to yell at those BC brothers of mine and then laugh at them because I got to go play flyball and they didn't!

Doesn't he look silly???

Cassie started it all

Hi, my name is Cassie...I'm a Jack Russell terrier.  I play a really fun game called flyball....check it out, my Mom wrote all about it.  She says I have to share this blog with my brothers, those nasty Border Collies.  I mean really, it's my job to keep them in line so I must beat them up at least daily.  It's a lot of work.  Did I mention, that I am 11 years old and still as spry and agile as I was when I was a puppy?  Oh, Mom told you differently, ok fine, I'm starting to be a bit stiff after tournaments but whatever, I still want to play.

So flyball, the background for me.  When I was just a puppy, Mom took me to the pet store, it was having this fun thing called a Grand Opening.  And there were these dogs there, and they had my favorite thing, the BALL!!!  And they got to run and play too.  I barked and fussed and did everything I could to join them.  Really it wasn't that hard right, run down, jump, get ball....no problem!  The really cool people there talked my mom into coming out to this thing called "practice."  It was tons of fun, I did really good, I ran down and jumped and got the ball.  I even brought it back to Mom, well kind of....anyway, we kept trying and the people kept adding jumps and dogs and all kinds of nonsense until a few months later I got to play!  Really play, at a thing called a tournament that the other big dogs got to play at.  Well I got really wound up and didn't do it right, so no more tournaments for me for a while.

Mom says it took almost three years for me to figure out the whole game.  Now I'm a pro!  Anyone from anywhere can be my handler, what are they for anyway?  I know the game!  I've even trained my boys and my girl to hold on to me so I don't go to early.  It's tons of fun but also can be frustrating when I don't get to play when I want to!  More later!
